Sales Manager - Flowerwood Nursery and Affiliates

Position Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing all sales functions related to independent garden centers, landscapers, re-wholesalers and new customer acquisitions across these channels. This position leads a team of outsides sales representatives as well as an inside sales team to drive revenue growth, enhance customer satisfaction, and expand market share.

  • Lead and manage the outside (territorial) sales team responsible for servicing independent accounts and acquiring new business in designated regions.
  • Supervise the inside sales/customer service team, ensuring high levels of responsiveness, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and execute strategies to grow sales with existing independent customers and open new accounts across independent, landscape, re-wholesale, and retail sectors.
  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities, prospects, and partnerships.
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance management for both inside and outside sales teams.
  • Coordinate product launches, seasonal promotions, and brand initiatives in collaboration with marketing.
  • Monitor sales pipelines and performance through CRM and ERP systems; prepare reports and forecasts for senior leadership.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key accounts; conduct regular customer visits and field support with reps.
  • Manage the production plan for this customer base based on market needs and opportunities.
  • Oversee the onboarding process for new customers to ensure a smooth transition into long-term accounts.
  • Plan, organize and attend trade shows and industry events to support team networking and market visibility.
  • Recommend and build the sales team to accomplish these goals.

 Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in B2B horticultural or nursery sales, preferably in a wholesale or agricultural setting.
  • Prior experience managing both inside and outside sales personnel.

Competencies

  • Proven success in team leadership, new business development, and account management.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-first mindset.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite; ERP knowledge a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to support reps and visit customer locations.

 

Physical Demands

  • Operate typical office equipment such as a computer, telephone, copy machine, etc.
  • Regular mental demands such as comprehension, reasoning, and strong math skills.
  • Occasionally lifts/pulls/carries up to 25 pounds.
  • On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, kneel, or reach above the shoulders.

Outside Sales Representative Flowerwood Nursery

Reports to: Sales Manager 

Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt 

Job Summary: This position focuses on providing customers with plants and information with in-store visits to increase their turns and profitability as well as providing nursery operations with information to meet the consumer demand. This position would ideally be based in Chattanooga, TN, to service eastern TN, western SC, western NC, and north GA. 

 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Service stores in defined area of coverage, making weekly in-person visits. 
  • Review pre-written orders and provide feedback before the communicated deadline. 
  • Work with merchandising groups in the stores to help promote Flowerwood Nursery. 
  • Assist with resolving issues at the store level including inventory issues, shipping, plant quality, etc. 
  • Submit feedback from the field weekly due on Mondays. 
  • Submit a call sheet of customers visited due on Mondays before 7AM CST. 
  • Attend trade shows when requested and support brand education if requested. 
  • Build relationships with plant buyers at independent garden centers and re-wholesale companies. 
  • Build relationship with inside sales teams at locations to optimize coverage. 
  • Communicate with Sales Manager on a regular basis concerning goals and initiatives in the retail and re-wholesale within defined area. 
  • Assist with other tasks related to the nursery. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of plants offered by Flowerwood Nursery including the Southern Living Plant Collection and the Encore Azalea
  • Previous customer/sales experience is preferred
  • Ability to drive to customer locations
  • Previous nursery and/or garden retail experience a plus
  • Strong communication - clear and articulate speech
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

 

Work Environment:

Travel to stores on a regular basis, minimal weekly time in home office.
