Staff Accountant - Flowerwood Nursery and Affiliates

Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing accounting activities related to preparing and maintaining financial records and reports while ensuring financial transactions align with laws and regulations.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

 

  • Perform journal entries, account reconciliations, and maintain general ledger accounts.
  • Conduct month-end and year-end close processes and assist with preparation of monthly financial statements, forecasts, projections, and budgets.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, including balance sheet, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Assist with preparation of yearly external audits and financial management reports.
  • Conduct detailed audits and reconciliations of company accounts and financial transactions.
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, and opportunities for improvements.
  • Calculate quarterly and annual taxes and prepare tax returns.
  • Provide financial and accounting analysis and research variances as needed.
  • Maintain accurate fixed asset depreciation schedule.
  • Assist in the financial management of the organization by monitoring expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements.by staying current on existing and new legislation advising management on needed actions.
  • Respond to information requests by management.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned by management.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) in Accounting.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a general accounting role from preparation to maintenance of financial data.

 

Competencies

  • Advanced Excel knowledge and use of formulas, pivot tables, and charts.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational/time management skills, prioritization, and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Proficient in in Microsoft Office Outlook and Word.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards and US GAAP
  • Strong analytical skills for problem solving.

  

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand, sit, talk, and hear, and use hands to handle, or touch objects or controls.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, bend, kneel, or reach above the shoulders.
  • Regularly required to operate typical office equipment such as telephone, copy machine, and postage meter as well as extended periods of computer use.
  • Speech, visual, and hearing ability sufficient to express and comprehend written and verbal communications.
